The DISTRICT is dedicated to the economic and community revitalization of the historic areas of downtown. Its programs seek to foster and stimulate growth of a district identity, community spirit, civic pride and unity while promoting the people in the area and to further retain downtown Nashville's historic character. MARTHA O'BRYAN CENTERis a Christian family resource center that supports and
empowers individuals and families in need living in the James A. Cayce Homes
(our city’s largest and poorest public housing development) and surrounding east
Nashville, as
they strive to attain greater levels of well being and self-reliance. MOBC was
founded in 1894, when Miss O’Bryan, a retired teacher, organized the Gleaners
Society at First Presbyterian Church to work with Nashville’s needy. In 1948, MOBC began
operating at the current site in the James Cayce Homes. Programming addresses
individual, family, and community needs, serving 3000 people yearly. www.marthobryan.org
PETERSON FOUNDATION FOR PARKINSONS
Founded by Brent Peterson, Assistant Coach for the Nashville Predators. The Peterson Foundation for Parkinsons (PFP) mission is to educate and raise awareness of the devastating effects of Parkinsons disease. PFP promotes special events to raise funds for Parkinsons related research, education, and support groups in the Middle Tennessee area and nationally.
